Importance of Cloud Storage Service
Cloud computing has been contemplated as the next generation IT architecture organizations, on account of its long list of remarkable advantages in the history of IT: extensive network access, on-demand self-service, rapid resource elasticity, location independent resource incorporation, transference of risk, and usage-based pricing (pay-as-you-go approach). As an obstreperous technology with intellectual implications, cloud computing is revamping the structure of how information technology is used by businesses. One important feature of this technology is that data is being consolidated or outsourced to the Cloud for storage.
Cloud Storage: The Basics
Cloud storage involves storing your valuable data with a cloud storage service provider in preference of a local system. As with any other cloud service, you can access the data on the cloud through an internet link from anywhere, on any device.
Cloud storage systems are of several different types, in which some are very distinct in their functionalities. Some store only emails or digital pictures, while others store almost all types of data. Some cloud storage systems are niche-oriented.
Storage as a Service
Storage as a Service otherwise referred to as SaaS, simply means that a third-part service provider rents their storage space to end users who cannot afford or maintain one on their own. This system is also ideal for organizations that do not have sufficient number of personnel or technical knowledge to develop and maintain the storage infrastructure. Storage service providers have become popular among small and mid-level organizations, due to the needs for disaster recovery, and complexity of replication and current backup.
The major advantage offered by SaaS is cost savings. The payment model usually offered by storage providers is either cost-per-data-transferred or cost-per-gigabyte-stored model. The end user, individuals or organizations, are not required to pay for the infrastructure. They just pay for the amount of data they transfer and store on the servers of the provider.
Advantages of Cloud Storage
From the perspective of users, inclusive of both individuals and enterprises, remote storage of data on the cloud in a compliant on-demand approach offers appealing benefits: location independent and universal access of data, relief from the responsibility of storage management, and eluding of capital expense on software, hardware, and personnel maintenances, etc.
In addition, cloud storage also provides the following advantages to its users:
- Scalability: Most cloud storage service providers allow you to scale the capacity of your storage to coordinate with your storage needs.
- Pay for use: You get to pay only for the amount of storage space you require.
- Ease of access: Most cloud storage services enable web-based access to your files from any place, at any time, and on any device.
- Reliability: You are offered transparent data replication by most cloud storage providers.
The data you store on the cloud can be accessed in a couple of ways:
- By way of a web browser that allows transfer of files to and from the cloud storage, and
- Using a mounted disk drive that acts as your local computer’s mounted file system.
