Dropbox is one of the top-rated online cloud storage center being used by more than 2-million businesses and many more individuals around the world. This service has its pros and cons, like many of the online file storage services, but it still offers some of the best backup capabilities, as well as security you can find in a provider. Our of all the providers online, our DropBox review found that this service is one of the easier to use. For beginners, this is probably the best cloud provider they could find.

The idea behind this service provider is to offer access to any files uploaded from any device, whether at work, home or traveling and from any device, including mobile phones or tablets. All files are stored with the some of the best encryption programs available through a host of different servers. You can share any files through a specific link or only authorize a certain group to share with through each users email. Each authorized person does have to download the Dropbox software.

Dropbox Features

Dropbox offers three different types of use: Free, Pro and Teams. While all of these plans offer different features, all have some basic features everyone, even businesses, look at in a cloud service. Our Dropbox review found these options to work best and be available in all plans.

  • Limited and unlimited storage space depending on plan
  • Sharing capabilities
  • Synchronizing uploaded files
  • Top encryption software to protect all files
  • Mobile accessibility
  • Backup space available for a price
  • Email customer support
  • Had a free version available

Each option is available with every plan, but it does matter which plan you use and each come with additional options depending on the plan. The Free plan has limited storage and only a few additional features, while the Pro and Team plans offer much more customization features, depending on what you want from your cloud provider. You can review each plan before purchasing a certain plan, but the free plan is best to get started to ensure Dropbox has what you needs.

dropbox review

Dropbox has one of the best mobile access programs available in the industry. It does not matter what type of device you use to go onto the web, you can access Dropbox through that device, including Blackberry, iPhone, iPad or Android devices. This makes access to your files available whenever you need them.

Dropbox also has a specific app for iPhones and iPods that allows you to transfer pictures or videos you have taken with that device to your Dropbox account and share them with a designated group. It is easy to share those files. All you have to do is upload those files to a specific folder that you designate, then invite through email addresses the group of users you want to share those files with. Dropbox will automatically send an sharing invitation to those email addresses and the person can accept the invitation or decline it.

Protection Program

Our Dropbox review found that this cloud provider has some of the best encryption security in the business. The services uses only SSL encryption for any files you transfer through the service and any stored files are protected by AES-256 when those files are being kept on the Dropbox servers. Only authorized individuals can view the files you designate. Even the group you share certain files with cannot see all the files in your account. If you designate some files as public, anyone can view that gallery or files.

During Dropbox Review We Found This Service the Easiest to Use

Out of all the cloud providers we have reviewed, Dropbox seems to be the easiest to use. All you need to do is sign up for the service, download the software and start using this provider. You can easily make new folders for private use or share those files through email addresses. Your group can go into the files only you authorize. You can create additional files within a shared group to separate documents from videos or graphs. This makes control easier. The control panel is easy to use because it does not have complicated tabs. Beginners will find this cloud provider to be one of the easiest to learn how to use.

Customer Support

One thing that is a little different than some of the top cloud providers is the ability to contact customer support. Our Dropbox review found that customer support is only available through email. All you have to do is click on the “Help” or “Contact Us” and request help or ask a question. Dropbox does have a “Frequently Asked Questions” section that will answers most of your inquiries.

Pricing Structure of DropBox

Our Dropbox review found this service to be one of the higher priced, but did offer a free version that could be used for no designated amount of time, only limited storage capacity.

  • Free Version – Unlimited usage, but 2GB of storage
  • Pro – 100GB of storage for $9.99 monthly or $99.00 annually
  • Pro – 200GB of storage for $19.99 monthly or $199.00 annually
  • Pro – 500GB of storage for $49.99 monthly or $499.00 annually
  • Team – Pricing starts at $795 annually for 5 users and $125 for each additional user

DropBox Advantages and Disadvantages

Like every cloud provider, Dropbox has its pros and cons. During our Dropbox review, we discovered many of those pros and cons that we wanted to pass along to you. However, out of all the providers our cloud experts reviewed, Dropbox has limited cons.

  • Reliability. Dropbox was always available when we accessed the service. The stability of the service was found to be the best we used to date. Through mobile devices or stationary equipment, we could always get into our account from anywhere.
  • Ease of use. It was the easiest to use and share files with groups became the top feature we found to be beneficial.
  • Synchronization. We could synchronize our files effortlessly after we uploaded the files to our account.
  • Applications. Dropbox provided a host of applications we found to be useful. Most of these applications could be used on any device.
  • History. Dropbox shows all the history of your files. Even when it comes to older versions of a file, Dropbox allows you to access any earlier version of any changed files.

  • Collaboration. One con found during our Dropbox review was the inability to collaborate on files. The only files that could be synchronized were the files we had uploaded. The files on our computer could not be synchronized with shared users unless we uploaded them first.
  • File Location. At times we found it hard to find the location of certain files. No specific tabs were available and we had to initially select different tabs to find some older file versions or deleted copies.

Even though our Dropbox review found this to be one of the best cloud providers available, it still has some work to do when it comes to business services. For individuals or small corporations, it was our top provider. The free version could be used for up to 2GB of storage. The Pro plan offered 100, 200 and 500GB of storage for different prices. The Teams plan had unlimited storage capacity, but pricing was based on the number of users in your group. The stability and reliability of this provider was one of the best we found. The number of applications available also separated this service from the others. We highly recommend this cloud provider for your backup needs.
